Preparation for Steve’s Study

Gentlemen,

I would recommend that you read the first 15 verses of Matthew, chapter 6 to get the most out of our study on Monday night.

… with particular emphasis on verses 9-13.

We will be discussing the Lord’s Prayer, or as some have called it, the “disciple’s prayer.”

Contentment in an Angst-ridden Culture

Gentlemen,

Here are five questions to aid your preparation for Monday night’s study:

  1. v. 11 – Paul declares that he is “content in whatever circumstances …” Why is this significant, coming from him?
  2. How/why is this important for you?
  3. v. 13 – What makes this contentment possible?
  4. v. 19 – What is the context for this exciting promise from the New Testament?
  5. v. 22 – Why did Paul mention the saints “… of Caesar’s household”?

The study starts at 7 pm … I have no clue who is bringing dessert … so let’s just feed on God’s Word!

To sign up for your date, simply post a comment to this blog, so we can all see who is grabbing which dates.  I will keep the list updated.

Check back toward the end of this week for prep. questions for next Monday’s study!

Gentlemen,

Here are some questions to help prepare you for Monday night’s study.

  • In Philippians 4:1, Paul exhorts his First Century audience to “stand firm” in the Lord.  Come prepared to “translate” what that means in your everyday life 20 centuries later.
  • Do you have a “Euodia” or “Syntyche” (v. 2) in your life?  What needs to change in/with you in order to “live in harmony” with him/her?
  • Come prepared to share about a time or instance when you chose to “rejoice in the Lord” (v. 4).
  • What is Paul’s formula for overcoming anxiety? (vv. 6-7)

The study starts at 7 pm … Craig is up for the “munchies” … see you before then!

Summer Schedule

Gentlemen,

We will not meet next Monday (Memorial Day), then we will conclude our study of Philippians over the following two Monday nights (June 1 & 8).

After this we will “change it up” a bit this summer.  Each of you will have an opportunity to lead our study, plus share your personal story of faith in Jesus Christ!

Use the links I emailed you to guide you in the process of writing down your testimony of faith.  Then pick a favorite Scripture passage to teach us.  Finally, select the date that you want to lead us (first-come, first-serve).  Sign up for one of the following dates by posting a comment.

  • June 15
  • June 22
  • June 29
  • July 6
  • July 13
  • July 20
  • July 27
  • August 3
  • August 17
  • August 24

Before you post, check what dates have already been snagged.  The dessert rotation will remain the same, in alphabetical order, by first names.  I will continue to remind you of that via email.

We will start a new book study in September!

Press On Toward Citizenship

Gentlemen,

This Monday, May 18th, we will focus on Philippians 3:10-21.  Here are a few questions to prepare you for our study.

v. 10 – What is the “fellowship of His sufferings”?

vv. 12 & 14 – What does it mean to “press on” in these verses?

v. 20 – Check out Revelation 21:10-27 for a glimpse of our heavenly “citizenship.”
